Today, May 1st, marks May Day, a day of celebration for the labor movement worldwide. It is also a time to commemorate the brave heroes who, 138 years ago, courageously fought for the 8-hour workday in a series of strikes and protests.

May Day serves as a powerful reminder that the rights we enjoy today were hard-won through the sacrifices of those who came before us. Their dedication and resilience laid the foundation for the labor movement as we know it.

As members of LIUNA, let us honor the legacy of these trailblazers by rededicating ourselves to the ongoing struggle for workers’ rights, civil rights, and human rights. Together, we remember their sacrifices, and together, we continue to strive for a better tomorrow.
